Renew a Driver’s License in New Hampshire

There are a few different ways to renew a New Hampshire driver’s license or state ID. You can renew:

• Online.
• In person (driver’s licenses only).
• At a drop box (non-driver ID only).

If you wish to get a REAL ID when you renew, or if you have a commercial driver’s license (CDL) you’ll have to visit in person.

Renew NH License Online

You can renew your New Hampshire driver’s license or non-driver ID online if you received a renewal notice in the mail with a Renewal Identification Number (RIN) on it. You will need your current license or ID and access to a printer to print your temporary license.

To renew online, visit the DMV online portal and:

1. Click “Continue to Online Driver’s License Renewal” or “Continue to Online Non-Driver ID Renewal.”
2. Provide your:
   • RIN
   • License or ID number.
   • Issue date of your license or ID.
   • Credit or debit card information for payment.
3. Print your temporary license or ID. This will be valid for 60 days as you wait for your permanent card to arrive in the mail.

Renew NH Non-Driver ID at a Drop Box

If you are not eligible to renew a non-driver ID online, you must use a drop box to complete the transaction.

NOTE: This service is unavailable for driver’s license renewals.

• Completed Application for Driver’s License or ID Card (DSMV450).
• Photocopy of your current ID.
• $10 check made payable to “State of NH-DMV." Do not include cash or a credit card.

Enclose your items together in an envelope and submit them in one of the drop box locations. As with all drop-box transactions, be sure to include the following with your paperwork:

• Full name.
• Phone number.
• Email address (optional).

Your permanent card will be mailed to you.

Renew New Hampshire License or ID in Person

To renew a license in person, you’ll need to visit a Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office and provide your:

• Completed Application for Driver’s License or ID Card (DSMV450).
• Current NH license. If you’ve lost your current license you may provide*:
  • Proof of identity.
  • Proof of NH residency.

  At the DMV, you will:

  • Take a new license photo.
  • Take a vision test.
  • Be given a temporary license (good for 60 days).

  Your new license will be mailed to your address.

  *Acceptable items are listed on the NH DMV website for both REAL ID compliant IDs and non-compliant IDs.
